The Features Of A Good Model Train Track
By Brad Pierce
It's funny really; most people have a model train set stored somewhere in the house that they had when they were a child or inherited from a relative. But a lot of these people don't get these out and use them, it's a shame really letting them waste away in the attic or in a cupboard. In this article I am going to be talking about model trains, focusing on tracks.
Once you have designed a layout for your train collection then you will need to focus more on selecting the right track and scenery. It's important that you get this stage right as it can make or break your chances of success. If you are unsure of what you are going to need to buy then a mode train kit is ideal.
You can buy kits that include tracks, train as well as a range of scenery items. These are ideal for people who are just getting started and are unsure of what piece of kit would be required to start from scratch. These kits can be bought cheaply from train stores and specialist modeling shops. However if you have a bit more experience or what something more customized then there are better options for you.
Buying a simple model train track is the first step after buying a train. It's very important that you never buy a railroad track that is a simple circle, I can't stress that enough because watching trains go round in a circle will quickly become very boring -trust me! It's always better to buy a mode train set that is a little more different and exiting than that.
The types of model train tracks that are available are;
The Continuous loop - This is the basic track that goes round and round in a circle, these quickly become very boring so I recommend that you avoid buying one of these tracks for your train if possible.
Out And Back - These tracks are larger than the others so are best used if you have a large area which you can devote to your train track. These are quite complex and can include train stations, turning circles and even tunnels.
Point To Point - Finally we have the point to point train track; this is another track that is very simple as the trains go from one end of the track to the other. They are more interesting however than the continuous loop track and usually include a train station as well.
Overall I recommend that you buy the out and back track for your model trains as these are much more interesting and exciting than the other tracks, however these are quite large and can be expensive, if you only have a small area and a small budget then I would buy a simple point to point model railroad track.
